Chylous Pericardial Effusion and Tamponade Due to Catheter Induced Superior Vena Caval Obstruction in a Premature Infant

چکیده
Chylous pericardial effusion and tamponade in children are rare complications of thoracic duct injury during cardiothoracic surgeries or as a result of superior vena cava (SVC) obstruction. We report a rare case of chylous tamponade in a premature infant as a complication of long standing central venous catheterization resulting in SVC obstruction. Urgent pericardiocentesis and then surgical creation of a pericardial window resulted in complete resolution of the effusion and recovery of the patient.

Chylous pericardial tamponade in a haemodialysis patient with catheter-associated thrombosis of internal jugular and subclavian veins.
Chylous pericardial effusion may occur after cardiothoracic surgery or in association with congenital lymphangiomatosis. Other causes may include chest trauma, mediastinal radiation, malignant neoplasm of the mediastinum or thrombosis of the subclavian vein and superior vena cava [1]. Idiopathic chylopericardium has also been described, most commonly in children and young adults [1]. Cardiac ta...

Background: Pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade are the rare complications of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC insertion) in extreme low birth weight infants. In this regard, paying attention to these complications is of utmost importance, because they can result in infant death. Case report: The case of our infant is a sa...

Precursor T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL) and T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) are considered same disease with different clinical presentations. Clinically, a case is defined as lymphoma if there is a mass lesion in the mediastinum or elsewhere and < 25% blasts in the bone marrow. Whereas, bone marrow with > 25% blasts with or without mediastinal masses is classified as T-cell ALL...

Yolk sac tumor rarely involves the pericardium. A 17-year-old boy had a mediastinal mass leading to total obstruction of the superior vena cava with cardiac tamponade and pleural effusion. Further imaging studies and biopsy showed that the origin was a yolk sac tumor. After surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy, no recurrence was noted during a follow-up of 20 months. This report describes the magn...
متن کاملCardiac tamponade in a newborn because of umbilical venous catheterization: is correct position safe?
Cardiac tamponade is a rare but life-threatening complication of umbilical venous catheterization in the newborn. Most complications from central venous catheters are related to incorrect position of the catheter and it is emphasized to confirm the position of the catheter tip after placement in order to avoid possible complications. We present an unusual complication of cardiac tamponade becau...
